Terms of Service

These terms are the agreement between you and Ninety-Eight ("we", "us"), a small online card game at play98.app run by an individual in Ontario, Canada. By playing, joining a room, or creating an account, you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use the game.

1. Who can play

You must be at least 13 years old. If you're under the age of majority where you live, you need a parent or guardian's permission, and they're responsible for any purchase. You're responsible for keeping your account secure and for what happens under it.

2. Be a good teammate

Ninety-Eight is a cooperative game, and it only works if everyone feels welcome. In chat, voice chat, your display name, your profile picture, room activity, and custom AI personalities, you agree not to:

Harass, bully, threaten, intimidate or stalk anyone.
Post hateful content, including attacks based on race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, or age.
Be vulgar or obscene, including sexual content, graphic violence, or slurs.
Upload a profile photo you don't have the right to use, or one that shows someone else without their permission.
Share someone's personal information without their permission.
Spam, advertise, or post links meant to mislead or harm.
Impersonate other people, including staff.
Encourage self-harm or illegal activity.
Disrupt games on purpose, such as joining public rooms just to ruin them.

The game's own rule against saying exact card numbers is part of the fun, not a term of service, but please play fair.

3. Reporting and moderation

You can report any chat message that breaks these terms using the report option on the message. Reports are reviewed by a person. Hosts can also remove people from their waiting room. We may remove content, end games, or suspend or ban accounts that break these terms, with or without warning, depending on how serious it is. If you think we got it wrong, email support@play98.app.

4. Voice chat and AI players

Voice chat isn't recorded, so moderators can't review it. The same rules apply, and if someone makes voice chat unpleasant, you can mute them by leaving voice or leave the room. AI players' lines are written by an AI model. We filter them and guide them to stay friendly, but they can occasionally say something odd or wrong. Please report anything inappropriate.

5. Ninety-Eight Pro

Pro is a subscription billed monthly or yearly through Stripe, at the price shown when you subscribe, plus any applicable taxes.
It renews automatically until you cancel. You can cancel any time from the Account page; Pro stays active until the end of the period you've paid for.
Payments aren't refundable except where required by law, or at our discretion if something went wrong on our end.
AI chat has a monthly fair-use allowance per host. We may change Pro's features or price; price changes apply from your next renewal and we'll give notice first.

6. Your content

You keep ownership of what you write. You give us permission to display and process it to run the game (for example, showing your chat to other players and sending it to the AI service for AI players). Don't post anything you don't have the right to share.

7. Our game

Ninety-Eight is an independent fan project inspired by cooperative number card games. The software, design and branding are ours. Don't copy, scrape, overload, or try to break into the game, or use it to build a competing service. Bugs that let you access things you shouldn't should be reported to support@play98.app, not exploited.

8. No guarantees

We provide the game "as is". We work to keep it running, but games can be interrupted (for example, during updates), and we don't promise it will always be available or error-free. To the fullest extent the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect or consequential losses, and our total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under consumer protection laws that can't be waived.

9. Ending things

You can stop playing and ask us to delete your account at any time. We may suspend or end access for breaking these terms or to protect players, and we may shut down the game, giving reasonable notice to Pro subscribers and a prorated refund for unused time if we do.

10. Changes and law

We may update these terms. We'll change the date at the top and, for significant changes, let account holders know. Continuing to play means you accept the new terms. These terms are governed by the laws of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada that apply there, and disputes go to the courts of Ontario, except where your local consumer law gives you other rights.
